What the ANZFSS (WA Branch) is All About

Here in WA we have a strong and active branch of the Society that caters for all sections of the Forensic community. The membership of the WA Branch includes areas such as pathology, biology, odontology, anthropology, entomology, chemistry and a number of other associated disciplines. A large number of WAPS officers from sections such as Fingerprints, Photography, Crime Scene Unit, Major Crime Unit, Documents and Ballistics are also active members. People from non-forensic backgrounds are also welcome and a large number of our membership is made up of individuals who simply have a keen interest in forensic science (to obtain an application form, either click here or on the 'Sign-up' button, above).

The WA Branch, in keeping with the National Body, works at bringing members together to promote multidisciplinary approaches to forensic issues and problems. The Society holds a series of seminars (approximately four general meetings and the AGM) throughout the year, which cover a wide range of forensic topics. Speakers are chosen from a variety of areas, and subjects include the latest forensic techniques in areas such as DNA, homicide investigations, criminal profiling, legal issues and historical cases.

The National Body maintains its own web site, www.nifs.com.au/ANZFSS/ANZFSS.html which has its own links to other web sites of forensic interest, such as NIFS (National Institute of Forensic Science).

Conferences and symposia are held regularly (every 2 years), where members both nationally and from overseas can meet and discuss current forensic issues. Scholarships are available to members who wish to attend these National meetings.
