SMANZFL Code of Conduct
The Senior Managers of Australian and New Zealand Forensic
Science Laboratories (SMANZFL) was formed to facilitate co-operation and support
between the managers of forensic science laboratories and services in Australia
and New Zealand.
Ethical conduct is a fundamental principal underpinning all
professions. In order to signal management commitment to ethics it was agreed
that SMANZFL would adopt the code of ethics of the Australian and New Zealand
Forensic Science Society (ANZFSS).
Furthermore, SMANZFL will endeavour to provide a foundation
upon which there is:
- A commitment to management practices in forensic science that ensure
forensic science services have the confidence of the users and the
community.
- A commitment to excellent quality management practices and the NATA and
ASCLD/LAB accreditation programs.
- A commitment to training and education in the forensic sciences to ensure
that the highest professional standards are achieved.
- Provide input and support to programs undertaken by the National Institute
of Forensic Science (NIFS).
- Support initiatives and programs of the Australia and New Zealand Forensic
Science Society (ANZFSS).
- Cooperation of managers to ensure forensic science initiatives are in the
best national interest.
- Foster linkages with the wider scientific and academic communities.
- Promote SMANZFL in the international arena.
- An exchange of information and professional support mechanisms to those
within the forensic science disciplines in Australia and New Zealand.
- A working environment that actively encourages employees to pursue the
highest attainable competencies and ethical work practices.
- The positive promotion of the forensic sciences as an important component
of the Criminal Justice Systems in Australia and New Zealand.
- The support of strategies to encourage research and development and the
continual improvement of forensic science technology.
- Actively discourage behaviour that will bring the forensic science
profession into disrepute
- Discharge our responsibilities toward the public, our employers, our
employees and peers in accordance with the ANZFSS ‘Code of Ethics’.
